a week agoThe hotel has so much history and character. The rooms definitely need a refreshing done, though, especially the carpet. I stayed in a loft room, which was very cool. Although one thing reception should probably ask the guest is if they are ok to walk up stairs as their bathroom and bedroom are located in the loft while the kitchen and lounge are downstairs. Overall, the service was really good. Breakfast was nice as well! Good variety of things to eat.

in the last weekStayed at Mercure Canberra one night during my trip to Australia in May 2024. The hotel location is excellent, not too far from the center of Canberra but in a quiet zone and close to bus stops to move around the city. Room was very spacious, the bathroom huge, both need some updates but for me it was perfect. The building has this character vibe that makes it different. Breakfast was good. Service was average, nothing to say about it. However, my only issue was that the safe in my room was not working and I wasted about two hours waiting for a technician to come fix it and it never worked. Besides this minor inconvenient I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel for a short stay in Canberra.

a month agoStayed here for 6 nights. Room was comfortable, heater worked well. Spare blanket in cupboard and the shower was lovely.Convenient location with a car. The only issue and really it wasn’t such a big one, was a few times we’d get back to the room after a day out and our room was still waiting to be serviced. Also note if you have mobility issues ask for a ground floor room.

a week agoLocation was good. Rooms were clean. Bed was rock hard. Shower had great pressure but very hot and cold. The building is clearly of historic significance, but this makes it difficult to navigate, and really not mobility friendly. Barking dogs in pet friendly rooms- this was addressed promptly by staff. The breakfast was average at best, and the very basic “barista coffee” was undrinkable. The “restaurant” was a pub bistro. Food was very average. Would not recommend if you are expecting the typical Mercure experience.

3 months agoNot trendy but good value, given the very moderate price we paid. Staff were great. Our room was basic but perfectly clean and adequate. However we were a bit disappointed that it was a bit compact and we only had a view of a fire escape. In hindsight, we should have paid more to get a courtyard room. Despite the rather ordinary look of the bar and bistro, the food and service was very good. We had the daily specials on both nights of our stay....I wasn't expecting much but the meals were very good and excellent value. The kitchen staff do an amazing job.
